8: Swinging into some golf
I can report that it was the first overcast morning we have had. Still pleasantly warm, but all activities today were under grey skies.
Didn't impact the golfers or the swimmers. Action continued. The buggy arrived (much to the delight of the baby) to transport @Anth and @Ian to the 9 hole course along with their personal cheer squad of @Mindy, @Bekah and @Katarina. A quick warm up in the driving range, a few donuts in the golf buggy as a farewell to the girls and they were off.
All reports indicate they enjoyed the course and they were neck and neck in their scoring, although @Ian did pull off a birdie on the 9th hole - right where the drinking breakfast spectators form the gallery. Hope he got the cheers he deserved.
The girls at home were focussed on breakfast (much to my discomfort - the fumes of food were not my friend.) @Mindy ordered two poached eggs, with a side of bacon and hash brown. Oh my, when the tray arrived the serving size was bizarre - two tiny little eggs, surrounded by a literally mountain of sides - it included 6 slices of toast and what seemed like half a kilo of butter! Handy really, because tge golfers gratefully hoed in on their return.
Next stop - the infinity pool which was surprisingly crowded today. Drinks, swims and naps and then onto the resort pool for lashings of tacos - one last time because they are the best in the world. The pink boat was left behind - generously donated to the next round of pool goers and it was noted that it was already being put to good use by another family.
@Katarina always obliges with a nap time when it is adult lunch time!
The 3.30 pm return to the room was accompanied by suggestions of a quick card game but @Katarina was the only one up for it.
Strolled beach side to the restaurant and set up base to finally enjoy @Anth's birthday dinner, complete with his chair adorned by balloons and the obligatory cake, staff song and candles.
Threw in the warriors show, island dancing and the fire show. @Bekah was tapped on the shoulder to join the female dancers and got herself a fan club in one of the family groups with a ringside seat. They loved her attempts at going native.
Menu options included steak so @Mac was happy (advertised as the best Australia has to offer 😋. ) Plenty of choice and the big expansive table, with a bench seat and a "who cares" sandy floor was the perfect setting for a "family friendly" meal. All courses got thr tick of approval - mind you, @Mindy's kids meal dessert was so so big and there was some tooth cracking potential in the churros ... no worries all could munch around those problems.
The music duo who provided the background beat were great and our courses were interspersed with rounds of dancing. Even got a speedy version of "Baby Shark" which was a hit for all the kids.
A stroll home via the Conceirge desk to arrange transport for tomorrow was a little frustrating. No yellow taxis (cost $50) are permitted onto the island according to the Conceirge. You have to use their transport hire company (cost $110.) Not happy Jan .... literally.
Walked off - in a huff! At this stage, we have no booking. @Ian has suggested we get a buggy to the boom gate and have the yellow taxi meet us there! @Mindy and @Ian are off to a four day surf camp and have arranged for "Joe" to pick them up for their two hour journey - hope he can gain access through the gate or they will be on the buggy to the boom gate before us!
I took out my frustrations on my packing. Threw stuff in my suitcase, slammed the lid and reefed the zip all muttering under my breath. Used the extra large carving knife to hack chunks off my green apple 🍏 (which was my dinner) and bashed a few plates and glasses around the dishwasher. Felt much better!

PS Whitsundays in 2028 abandoned- apparently cycling and stingers are a deterrent. @Mindy trying to lure us to Jamaica with the added incentive of the Panama Canal.
PPS Asked @Anth to get a photo of the cake. Typical. He is so funny.
